Nashville Metros are an American soccer team, founded in 1989. The team is a member of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, and plays in the Southeast Division of the Southern Conference against teams from Atlanta, Bradenton, Cary, Cocoa, Greensboro, Orlando, and West Palm Beach.

The Metros were founded by Lynn Agee and Devinder Sandhu and are currently the longest continuously owned and operated soccer club in the United Soccer Leagues along with the El Paso Patriots. They began play in the Sunbelt Independent Soccer League (indoor) in 1990 but, due to a lack of indoor facilities, the Metros played their entire first season on the road, before finding facilities in Smyrna. The Metros continued to play indoors until 1996, but only managed to win six matches in six seasons. They played outdoors in the USL Premier League during much of the same period, with significantly better results.

The Metros then moved to the A-League second division in 1997, and began concentrating more specifically on outdoor soccer. They made their first U.S. Open Cup appearance in 1998, but were forced to reorganize in 1999 due to financial circumstances. The side became the Tennessee Rhythm and moved from Nashville to Franklin, but returned back to their original venue in 2001, reverting to their original name at the same time. In 2002 the Metros moved down from the A-League to the PDL, mainly due to their ground’s substandard facilities, such as the lack of a press box.

The Metros play their home games atSoccer-specific stadium (SSS) is a term used mainly in the United States and Canada. It was coined by Lamar Hunt to refer to a sports stadium whose primary (but not only) purpose is to host soccer matches. An SSS may host other events such as other sporting events (mostly lacrosse and gridiron football), drum and bugle corps competitions, and concerts, but the design and purpose of an SSS is centered on soccer.

Still, these facilities often face criticism from fans in that they tend to be optimized for staging concerts, often resulting in one section of the stadium behind a goal having very few seats, if any. Instead, a berm or other feature is created where concert stages could be placed without destroying the main field.[citation needed]

A SSS typically has amenities, dimensions and scale suitable for soccer in the United States, including a scoreboard, video screen, luxury suites and possibly even a roof. The field dimensions are within the range found optimal by FIFA — 110-120 yards (100-110m) long by 70-80 yards (64-75m) wide,[1] wider than the regulation American football field width of 53⅓ yards. Lastly, the seating capacity is generally small enough to provide an intimate setting, between 18,000 - 30,000 for a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise, or between 5,000 - ~15,000 for a franchise in the United Soccer Leagues (whose attendance is subject to more variation), as opposed to the gigantic American football stadiums in which most MLS teams were compelled to play at the league's inception. The seating capacity for USL Premier Development League fields ranges from 1,000-5,000.

The first large SSS in Canada will be BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario. The original Toronto stadium plan was centered on grounds at York University that would have been used by the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts and an MLS team. That stadium would have been 65 yards wide, in accordance with Canadian football standards, and would have had one set of end zone seats mounted on a track so they could be moved: back, to make room for the 150 yard length of the Canadian football field (including the end zones); and forth, to provide an intimate setting for soccer. However, the York University plan was shelved. Plans for movable stands were then scrapped, meaning that BMO Field will be soccer-only when it is completed on the grounds of Exhibition Place.

The term "football-specific stadium" is sometimes used in countries where the sport is known as football, although not so much so in countries where football is the dominant sport and thus football-specific stadia are quite common. The term tends to have a slightly different meaning in these countries, usually referring to a stadium without an athletic track.

Old Hickory Lake

is a man-made lake in north central Tennessee. It is formed by the Old Hickory Lock and Dam, located on the Cumberland River at mile 216.2 in Sumner and Davidson Counties, approximately 25 miles upstream from Nashville. The city of Hendersonville is situated on the northern shoreline of the lake, and the city of Old Hickory is located on the southern side of the lake, just upstream of the lock and dam. The lake extends 97.3 miles upstream to Cordell Hull Lock and Dam near Carthage, Tennessee. The dam and lake are named after President Andrew Jackson (nicknamed "Old Hickory"), who lived in the vicinity at The Hermitage.

The lock, dam, powerhouse and lake are operated and supervised by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' personnel under the direction of the District Engineer at Nashville.

Old Hickory Lake is a mainstream storage impoundment on the Cumberland River operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The reservoir contains 22,500 surface acres at an elevation of 445 feet (above sea level) and extends 97.3 river miles. Water level fluctuations are minimal with minimum pool elevation at 442 feet. Public facilities include nine marinas, three Corps-operated campgrounds, and 41 boat access sites, as well as the Old Hickory Lake Arboretum.

J. Percy Priest Lake is an artificial lake in north central Tennessee. It is formed by J. Percy Priest Dam, located between miles six and seven of the Stones River. The dam is located about 10 miles (16 km) east of downtown Nashville and impounds a lake 42 miles (68 km) long. The lake and dam are named for Congressman Percy Priest.

J. Percy Priest Lake covers portions of Davidson, Rutherford, and Wilson Counties and consists of 14,200 acres (57 km²) of water at summer pool elevation 490 feet (149 m) above mean sea level. The water is surrounded by 18,854 acres (76 km²) of public lands; 10,000 acres (40 km²) are devoted to wildlife management. The Natural Resource Management Office (615-889-1975) maintains three campgrounds (Anderson Road, Seven Points, and Poole Knobs), eleven day-use/picnic areas (Anderson Road, Cook, Damsite, East Fork, Fate Sanders, Jefferson Springs, Nice's Mill, Overlook, Seven Points, Smith Springs, and Tailwater), and twelve boat launching ramps (Anderson Road, Cook, East Fork, Fall Creek, Fate Sanders, Hurricane Creek, Jefferson Springs, Lamar Hill, Mona, Nice's Mill, Poole Knobs, Seven Points, Smith Springs, Stewart's Creek, and Viverett Creek). Additionally the lake is also home to numerous marinas and the Vanderbilt Sailing Club. The dam, powerhouse, lake, and public lands are operated and supervised by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' personnel under the direction of the District Engineer at Nashville. It is near Nashville Shores.

Country Music Marathon

General Race Info

The 8th annual Country Music Marathon & 1/2 Marathon will start in Centennial Park and run through Nashville's most scenic sights. 50 bands on 28 entertainment stages and hundreds of high school cheerleaders will entertain runners, walkers and spectators alike. Country, rock, jazz, blues, swing and more will pulsate every mile on the course.

Music will continue into the night as the Gaylord Entertainment Center in downtown Nashville hosts another incredible post-race concert. Past performers include Martina McBride, Jo Dee Messina, Diamond Rio, Brad Paisley and Phil Vassar.

ChampionChip Timing

The Country Music Marathon & 1/2 Marathon is proud to offer ChampionChip Timing. Computer chip timing is the most advanced method of timing available so you receive the most exact time possible. Your time starts when you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line.

Marathoners will receive a 10K, half marathon and 20-mile split time. Half marathoners will receive a 10K split time. Please note: all age group awards will be determined by chip time, but all overall and monetary awards will be determined by gun time.

You must pick up your loaner computer chip and your race number at the Health & Fitness Expo. If you have your own yellow chip, you may use it, but you must bring it to the Expo to be scanned along with your race number. You may purchase a personalized reusable yellow chip (top - click to enlarge) for $39 at the Expo or through online registration.

If you do not wear your computer chip, you will not be timed and you will not receive a Finishers Certificate. Loaner chips must be returned on race day before you exit the secured finish area. For more information about how ChampionChip timing works visit www.championchip.com

The Start Line (Located at Centennial Park)

* Start Corral

The corral system assures a smooth start. All participants will be assigned a corral based on their projected finishing time with the fastest runners assigned to the lowest numbers.

* Corral Changes

A corral change is only necessary when moving closer to the start line, i.e. a faster finish time. All corral changes must be taken care of at the Health & Fitness Expo; no corral changes will be allowed race morning.

* Gear Check

On race morning, if you have any gear that you don’t want to run with but need when you finish, check it into the Gear Check area at the start. Just affix your personalized mailing label to your Gear Bag and drop if off before you run. Your gear will be waiting for you at the finish!

The Finish Line (Located at LP Field)

The Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon will finish at LP Field with a beautiful view of downtown Nashville. Participants receive a mylar blanket, finisher's medal and plenty of food and refreshments. Meet up with family and friends at the family reunion area and then check out the finish line music and other festivities.

* Finish Line Festival

Spenco SandalsA rockin post-party awaits you after you cross the finish line. Celebrate your race with more refreshments and entertainment in the finish line Pavilion. Can you handle even more music? Live bands jam on the finish line stage to get you ready for the nights Post Race Concert in downtown Nashville's Gaylord Entertainment Center. SPENCO, a leading brand of insoles and foot care products, will be in the secure zone at the finish line giving every finisher a free pair of comfort sport sandals to wear after the race.

* Finish Line Photos

Official photographs and video will be taken along the course and at the finish line by Action Sports International. Keep your race number uncovered and in clear view or it may be impossible to identify your photograph. Plan to stop your watch a few seconds after crossing the finish line. Action Sports International will email proofs of your photograph with ordering information within one week after the marathon. The video will be a highlight tape of the marathon which will include shots of you as you approach and cross the Finish Line.

* Gear Check

All Gear Bags checked at the start line will be waiting for you at the finish line. Look for the trucks located in Lot K at LP Field. All bags must be reclaimed by 3:00 pm. Please do not leave valuables, cash or jewelry in the Gear bags.
